Universal Ennui

Universal Ennui: Movement inspired by lewd acts, lost limbs and all our boredoms is an independent site-specific piece in collaboration with Rebecca Munce's drawing show at The Black Cat Artspace. This work looks at the expense boredom takes on our lives and the sadness it can evolve in to. The 25-minute intimate dance piece is supported with original writing by Alie Lavoie.

DEAD WEIGHT DOLDRUMS

Dizzy doorway, stretched between the frame
Pressed down into the floorboards

Find me rearranging breaths to make
New shapes in the lungs

Spilling out with murmur mouth
And long, slow blinks
To toss around the room

With its
Kaleidoscope corners
And its
Angles bent to arcing planes

And then --
Find me taking tender steps
Find me rendered spectacle

Spilling out with muddled mouth

The girl falls up, the girl falls down
Dead weight doldrums thrown around

And here --
The crowd goes wild
Little tremors, little smiles

For the minute hands, grey matter fog
These fever dreams
This fever song:

The girl falls up, the girl falls down
Dead weight doldrums thrown around
